A new method of burning and partial burning detection using a spark plug as a sensor is discussed in this paper. By applying a bias voltage across the spark plug points, the voltage between the spark plug electrodes is set up. A number of gas ions are produced during combustion, and the ion current takes place via the gap of spark plug. If partial burning happens, incompletecombustion will take place in the cylinder, thus the numbers of gas ions are very small, and ion current is also very low comparing with...

If partial burning happens, incompletecombustion will take place in the cylinder, thus the numbers of gas ions are very small, and ion current is also very low comparing with that under normal combustion. So it is useful to judge burning and partial burning of engine by detecting and analyzing the signal of ion current. The soot in spark plug and the small gap of spark plug electrodes can decrease ignition energy, thus incompletecombustion easily happens in the engine. So a lot of experiments on soot and reducing the gap to weaken ignition energy have been down on the steady combustion field and the fourcylinder type DA462A respectively. The results show that the value of the ion current is different between the normal combustion and partial burning. So monitoring the ion current is very useful, valuable and reliable for partial burning diagnosis.

本文提出了一种检测发动机是否完全燃烧的新方法。在火花塞电极上加一附加电压,使其两端产生一定的电位差。当缸内混合气燃烧时,燃烧生成的大量燃气离子通过火花塞电极间隙产生离子电流;当发动机不完全燃烧时,由于燃烧不充分,燃气所产生的离子数大大低于正常燃烧时的值。因此通过对流经火花塞离子电流信号的检测和分析,能有效的对发动机是否完全燃烧作出准确的判断。本文还分别对由于火花塞积碳以及间隙过小,导致点火能量不足,从而造成的不完全燃烧,在稳定火焰燃烧场和DA462 A型汽油机上分别进行了试验研究。试验结果显示,正常燃烧与部分燃烧的离子电流信号在数值上差异较大。所以该方法完全可以用于发动机不完全燃烧的故障诊断。
