The technology of geomagnetic observation develops on the basis of material science,electronictechnology and computation technology,The development of new sensing technique, the developmentof new instruments, the studies of new observation methods,and the composition and operation ofnew observation systems are the four mutually correlated yet relatively independent key links in the development of geonlagnetic observation technology.The development trend is toward electronic,digital, automatic and unmlanned geomagnetic observations, for setting up a new worldwide geomag-netic observation network. This paper describes the geomagnetic observation systems in some countries,such as the United States,Canada,Japan and the United Kingdom,and the application of geomagnetic observation sys-tems in earthquake studies;outlines the INTERMAGNET;puints out that up to the present the tra-ditional structure framework of geomagnetic observation systems still remains unchanged,that is,each system is devided into two parts namely:relative recording and absolute observation.

地磁观测技术的发展是以材料科学、电子技术、计算技术为基础的。新的传感技术的开发、新仪器的研制、新的观测方法的研究和新的观测系统的组成与运行是地磁观测技术发展过程中既相互关联又相对独立的4个环节。发展方向是电子化、数字化、自动化和无人值守,并进而建成世界地磁台网。本文在介绍了美国、加拿大、日本和英国等一些国家的地磁观测系统及其在地震研究中的应用,概述了正在推行的国际地磁台网计划之后,指出地磁台站观测系统发展至今,传统的结构格局仍然未变,即各系统都可以分为相对记录与绝对观测两大部分。
