It is known as a variety of the common masson pine. The variety grows fast. with a straight bole and good wood property, and with better character, higher economic value; and more stable genetic traits. The analysis of PCA demonstrates that its thin bark has a unique effect, and it is a superior pine gene resource to which great importance must be attached in order to strengthen its protection and exploitation.

对湖北省宜昌地区的薄皮马尾松进行调查研究表明,薄皮马尾松在形态特征、解刮结构及木材物理力学性质等诸方面,都与普通马尾松存在较大差异,可认为是马尾松的一个变种。它生长快、树干通直、材质好,比普通马尾松具有更为优良的性状和更高的经济价值,且具有较稳定的遗传性状。经进行PCA分析,证明其皮薄具有独特效应,是优良的松树种质资源,应予引起足够的重视,加强保护和开发利用。

Pinus massoniana Lamb. var. Yichangensis Huang et Zhuang is one new variety denominated by tree taxonomist Prof. Hong Tao from China Academy of Forestry and with many specialties such as thin bark, fast-growing, excellent stem quality, high forest stand biomass, high utilization percent of light energy and wide adaptability. This article carries on an overall summary from aspects of determination in distribution and resource status of Pinus massoniana var. Yichangensis Huang et Zhuang, procedures for engineering construction of seed production base, construction process and achievement, major management technology and initial successful experience in construction of seed production base. It has provided technology and method for future construction of other seed production bases in our province.

宜昌薄皮马尾松 (PinusmassonianaLamb.var.yichangensisHuangetZhuang )是经中国林科院树木分类学家洪涛教授定名的 1个新变种 ,该变种具有树皮薄、生长快、干形好、材质优良、出材率高、林分生物量及光能利用率高、适应性广等特点。本文从宜昌薄皮马尾松分布区域及资源状况的确定、采种基地的工程建设程序、建设过程及成绩、基地建设的主要经营技术、采种基地建设成功的初步经验等方面进行了全面总结。为今后我省其他采种基地的建设提供了方法和技术
