Basic principles governing the liquid/solid phase-transformation during rapid solidification process have been examined.These principles in elude heat transfer and recalescence, thermodynamics of metastable and non-equilibrium solidification, growth kinetics and solute redistribution. Kinetec models for the Al-33wt.%Cu and Al-5wt.% Si alloys have been calculated and compared with the experimental results.
