Applying paclobutrazol significantly enhanced the amount of return bloom, yield and fruit quality.In the year of application, particularly in the following year, fruit setting of paclobutrazol-treated trees was significantly higher than that of the control. Results from controlled pollination indicated that this was related to an extention of the time during which the ovule was capable of being fertilized. Paclobutrazul application also increased the growth rate of the fruitlets which prevented them from abscission. There was an increase in chlorophyll content and photosynthetic rate in the spur leaves of paclobutrazol-treated trees before 'June drop'.
