The morphologic and biochemical changes of BPEC incubated with ET or Baicalin were observed. The morphologic and biochemical changes of BPEC incubated with ET or Baicalin were observed. The results show that the ET can induce the injury of structure of BPEC including the swelling of mitochodria,thc expanding of en-doplasmic reticulum,collapsing of cell membrane and destroying of the junction between BPEC (Baicalin can reduce the destruction of membrane, especially of the junction of BPEC induced by ET. Baicalin can also inhibit the secretion of protein,the release of pro-teinase and production of free radical of BPEC preincubated with ET. It suggests that Baicalin can partially protect BPEC from injury of ET. Its mechanism is related to the mechanism that the baicalin can inhibit the respiretory burst and release of free radical of BPEC induced by ET.
