There are coal seam spontaneous combustion and firing problems existing in major coal mines in China, especially in mines with a thick seam. The application of a high production and efficient mining technology in special thick seam is highly obstructed by those above problems. Therefore it is necessary to have a rapid and efficient mine fire extinguishing technology-a mine fire direct extinguishing technology with high temperature resistance high water gel to control seam spontaneous combustion and firing. The research and development of the technology is base on silicon gel to develop “setting gel", “gel mud", flying ash gel and other mine fire extinguishing materials. The materials are mainly made of basic material, accelerator, reinforcer and solution with a certain ratio blending. The mine fire extinguishing material can be transported to a mine firing site with a pipeline. The technology can be used to handle a large high temperature area in a gob area behind the hydraulic powered supports of a longwall mining face, a large area seam fire above the hydraulic powered supports and a large area high temperature and coal spontaneous combustion in a gob. This technology has successfully been applied to handle 67 mine fires.

A fire broke out in Dongrong No.3 coalmine in 2003. Fire-fighting techniques by Filling inert gas and injecting other fire-fighting agents were employed but failed to prevent the fire from spreading. Then a new technique was taken to extinguish the fire by making use of the existing slurry injecting system to inject composite fly ash gel into the fire zone. Large amount of composite fly ash gel is injected into sealing walls around the fire zone to block air leaking passages and large area of fire is extinguished....

双鸭山东荣三矿2 0 0 3年发生火灾,开始应用注水、注惰、注灭火剂等方法,均未控制住火势。后来,通过该矿现有的灌浆系统,形成复合胶体管网式防灭火系统,利用该系统向火区周围密闭墙内大量压注粉煤灰复合胶体,堵塞了向火区漏风的通道,扑灭了大范围火源。接着启开火区下部的运输上山,从运输上山向火区打钻,由钻孔直接向火区注复合胶体,彻底扑灭了火灾,保障了矿井安全生产。实践表明,复合胶体管网式防灭火技术是一种快速高效的防灭火技术,适应大面积煤层火灾的防治要求。
