A decision making framework for manufacturing systems is an important technical means of manufacturing system studies. Having analysed connotations and characteristics of manufacturing systems, this paper presents a pentagonal decision making framework for manufacturing systems which consists of cost. time, quality, flexibility and environment, and discusses it and its use. An example is given to show its application in a manufacturing decision.
