The waveguldes can be obtained when the certain requirements of the thickness and the index of refraction of the films arc satisfied. We intruduce how to accomplish the conditions of thermal diffusion of ions using AgNo_3 and glass (K_9), and present experimental process. The results and some of theoretical analysis are given. The methods and the results of measuring and calculating are shown. The experiment proves that such waveguides having characteristic of low losses and ease of fabrication are very attractive for planar waveguides and various devices of integra-ted optics.

利用玻璃中实现离子热扩散原理,我们制成了玻璃光波导。本文详细叙述了热扩散光波导形成机理。把一些重金属离子如Ag~+,Tl~+,K~+等扩散到玻璃表面,并替换其中的Na~+,Li~+等轻离子,那末在玻璃表面得到一层比衬底折射率高的薄膜。当薄膜厚度和折射率满足一定要求时,就可以做成光波导。我们介绍如何用AgND_3和K9玻璃实现离子热扩散条件,和介绍了实验过程。给出了实验结果和理论分析,介绍了测试和理论计算的方法和结果。实验证明,具有低损耗和容易制造为特点的这种光波导,对制成平板波导和集成光学的各种器件是有益的。

In this article, propagation characteristics of light rays in glass plates with parabolic distributions of refractive index on the thickness are discussed. The central refractive index higher than that of the two big surfaces and the central refractive index lower than that of the two big surfaces are discussed respectively. The former is called glass plates with positively directional distribution of refractive index and the latter is called glass plates with negatively directional distribution of refractive index, and also, propagation of light rays in two perpendicularly intersected glass plates with positively directional parabolic distribution of refractive index is discussed.
