Gossypol dissolved in salad oil was administered by stomach tube to the male rats at dosages of 20 or 30 mg/kg/day, 6 times a week for 30-90 days. Testicular atrophy or failure of spermatogenesis was the direct and conspicuous feature. The atrophied testis and epididymis showed a lower zinc concentration and a higher iron concentration. Because these two reproductive organs are composed of the stroma and the spermatozoa, and the latter are produced by or included in the stroma, after long-term gossypol administration...

Because these two reproductive organs are composed of the stroma and the spermatozoa, and the latter are produced by or included in the stroma, after long-term gossypol administration the spermatozoa will be reduced or absent. For this reason it is difficult to assert whether these changes of two kinds of metal ions are cause or effect of the gossypol action.Liver has a relatively simple histological structure. We found that the liver of the restricted-fed rats had higher levels of zinc and iron than the ad libitumfed controls, and the liver zinc and iron of the gossypol administered rats were reduced from the higher levels of the restricted-fed ones. According to the reduction of the liver zinc, iron and manganese after gossypol administration, we might know that gossypol is related to these metal ions in vivo.A presumption on the mechanism of the gossypol antifertility action was presented: "Gossypol chelates the Zn of the male reproductive system, then the spermatogenesis is destroyed." The reduction in liver zinc showed that gossypol could chelate zinc in vivo. However, whether hence antifertility follows has yet to be determined by further investigations. These findings were discussed merely as a progress report.The young rat was more tolerant towards gossypol than the adult one. And it seemed that the purebred Wistar albino rat, according to the reproductive system-testes and epididymides-was more tolerant towards gossypol than the hybrid one.

The content of zinc, copper and iron of 50 different kinds of commonly used foods in Shanghai determined by atomic absorption spectrophot-ometer is presented. In general, liver, meat, egg yolk and marine products are the best sources of above elements. Plant foods usually contain less amount and the contents of fruits are negligible. There are positive correlations among the contents of zinc, copper and iron in all foods described above. Although the zinc and iron contents exceed the copper, but the recommended daily intake of zinc and iron were 5 and 10 times greater than that of copper respectively, and the phytate and cellulose in foods can hinder the absorption of zinc and iron. Hence zinc and iron deficiencies are expected to be higher.The contents of these elements in cow's milk can't meet the demand of the infant growth and development. So it is reasonable to enrich the cow's milk products with these elements.

本文采用原子吸收法对上海地区50种常用食物作了锌、铜、铁含量的测定。结果表明,肝、肉、蛋黄和海产类上述元素的含量较多,植物性食物次之,而水果则含量极微。在各种食物中这三种元素的含量常呈正相关。虽然食物中锌和铁的含量较铜多,但由于每日锌和铁的需要量分别为铜的5倍和10倍,而且食物中的植酸盐和纤维素均能妨碍其吸收,故二者同时缺乏颇为常见。 牛乳中这三种元素的含量均不能满足小儿生长发育的需要,故对乳制品应加以强化。

利用全自动质子激发 X 射线(PIXE)分析系统,对34名长期从事 X 射线临床诊断的工作人员血清中七种微量元素的含量进行了测定,采样时他们的实际工龄都已在10年或10年以上。以32名一般医务人员作为对照。结果发现:X 射线工作者血清中的溴、氯和钾三种元素的含量比对照组高;而钙、铜、锌和铁四者比对照组低。工龄较长的,其血清中微量元素含量的变化就更明显,其中血清铁含量的减少与对照组比较,出现显著性差异(p<0.05)。
