The study illustrates how difficult the ethnic elites were in choosing their ethnic identity in history, and points out that the construction of ethnic identity is a complicated process including negotiations and struggles, differentiations and integrations, and interactions and adaptations as well.

Traditional folk festivals play an important part in the collective memory of ethnic groups because they are a series of commemorative activities. The collective memory has been handed down from storytellers of one generation to another, and has determined related ceremonies of festivals, social customs and habits, which constitutes the basis of ethnic identity. Taking the festival legends of the Zhuang nationality for example, this paper studies the close relationship between collective memory and ethnic identity through the analysis of the texts and the description of the fields.

不同族群的民间传说常常包含着该族群丰富的集体记忆,对于整个族群而言,传统节日中的集体记忆尤为重要,因为传统节日构成了族群整体性的纪念活动,族群的集体记忆在节日中以讲述的方式形成传承机制,同时决定着节日中的相关仪式和风俗习惯,构成了一个族群稳固的身分认同基础。以壮族民间节日中的节日传说为个案,通过文本分析和田野描述来说明节日传说中的集体记忆与族群身份认同之间的密切关联。
