Adopting a perspectivesharply different from that article, this paper conducts a case study of Li Bai’s poem“Jing Ye Si”to show that a structural analysis of thesource text is a radical approach that will only result in the imposition of a lot of structural ambiguities that are not the author’s intendedmeaning on the readers of the target language. Then, with the support of adequate linguistic data, this paper refutes what it considers to be rashconclusions of that article such as“the unchangeability of the paradigmatic relations of the Chinese language in spite of the evolution of thelanguage through the millennia”and“the untranslatability of Chinese time concepts”. In so doing, this paper hopes to expose the absurdityof the claim, based upon a priori grounds alone, that the Chinese language is untranslatable.

本文是一篇纯学术论争文章,站在“可译性/不可译性”争论的一极,从不同的视点批驳本刊去年刊登的一篇文章。它首先通过对李白诗歌《静夜思》英译的个案分析,指出对原文的理解不能采取极端的结构分析方法,把许多并非作者原义的结构歧义强加给译文读者。文章接着用大量的语言数据反驳“汉语聚合关系虽经几千年历时态演变却依然如故”和“汉语时间意识不可译”等草率的结论,从而揭示“论不可译性”一文“逻辑先在地”把汉语视为不可译的荒谬性。

An examination of the usage of "hun" and "po" and their related compounds in Li(Bai's) poems reveals that "hun" and "po" are not confused in his poems and that Li Bai strictly follows the ancient Chinese usage of the words which embodies his Taoist belief and interprets the Taoist concept of life-composing substance in "jing po".

考察“魂”与“魄”及其相关的复合词在李白诗歌中的用法,可以看出,李白诗歌中“魂”与“魄”作为对义词而决不混用,李白对“魂”与“魄”的使用既严格遵循上古汉语的用法,又体现出他的道教信仰,由此诠释了道家用“精魄”一词表达构成生命物质的观念。
