Recently research on quartz crystal direction for SAW devices is stimulating all over the world. Many new cuts aiming at improving the performances of SAW devices have been discovered. The direction described in the paper was first reported by F. Lewis in 1981,the glaring advantage of which is that its temperature coefficient is nearly close to zero within the appropriate wide temperature range. Consequently it is considerably available for the fabrication of SAW oscillators with high stability. According to the method developed by F. Lewis, the symbols for IRE cuts of the main cut-ting plane anecl propagating plane of the substrate are (xylf)-46°/116° and (zylw)-46°/116°, respectively. This paper systematically describes the derivation program of X-ray directional crystal plane of the substrate by virtue of the coordinate transposition matrix and the relationship between coordinates of the doublerotated substrate and the crystal.The whole calculation process of X-ray direction data for the main cutting and propagating planes of the substrate is demonstrated. X-ray direction data are provided for two groups of the main cutting plane and propagating plane for quartz substrate in four different positions with the described direction.

A series of SAW oscillators with small size, high reliability and easy installation have been designed and fabricated.They are suitable to use as local oscillators in low power TV transmitter.
