Based on a statistical study and careful investigation, this paper points out the main defects of overusing the multiplechoice technique in the teaching of College English reading, e. g. Unhelpful to the teacher's knowledge of the student's thinking process, unhelpful to the development of students'productive ability in spoken & written English, and so on. Therefore, the teaching methods should be improved with various forms of exercise items to help students better grasp reading skills and develop all-round abilities in listening, speaking, reading and writing, asrequired by the College English Syllabus.

多项选择题是目前英语测试中常见的一种题型,它具有客观性强,批阅快捷等优点。然而,在大学英语阅读中却普遍存在着过多使用多项选择题的现象。调查统计显示,阅读教学中由于过多使用多项选择题而产生诸多弊病,如不利于教师了解学生的思维过程和不利于学生口、笔头表达能力的培养等。因此要在教学中改进教学方法,采用灵活多样的练习形式,才能使学生较好地掌握阅读技能,提高听、说、读、写诸方面的能力,达到大学英语教学大纲所规定的要求。
