The results show that adapting both the turbo coded modulator and the transmit power achieves the performance within 2.5 dB of the fading channel capacity.

A multi-rate turbo coder was designed, which adopts multiple generator and can cover wide code-rate range, while the complexity of the system is not increased much. Based on Alamouti space-time block code (STBC) and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM), a robust broadband wireless image transmission scheme was put forward. With multi-rate turbo coder technology, the scheme adopts unequal error protecting (UEP) of the SPIHT bit streams and joint source-channel coding (JSCC) techniques, and can effectively resist the fading impact of the broadband Rayleigh fading channel. Moreover, it can improve the visual quality of the reconstructed image.
