Since the second half of the 19th century, Chinese achievements in mathematics have been suspected and negated by western scholars, of which this paper makes a study and analyses the reason. The author tries to show that Chinese historians of science should do much more in studying, translating and promulgating traditional Chinese mathematics in order to make it known to more Western scholars.

This paper deems after analyzing the data that they had come to their conclusion owing to their misapprehension of Wang Fuzhi's theory about the conservation of matter. It points out that Wang Fuzhi had not really taken cognizance of the conservation and transformation of movement.

物质运动在量上的守恒和在质上的转化是自然界的一条基本法则。我国科学史界近年来发表的一些论著认为,明末王夫之已明确认识到物质运动的不灭性和相互转化的道理。该文分析有关资料后认为,学术界得出这一结论,是由于对王夫之物质不灭理论误解的结果,从其有关论述中无法得出其已具有运动不灭及相互转化思想的结论。
