The effects of Si in the steel, in the galvanizing bath and immersion time on the coating thickness have been studied. The experimental results indicate that the coating thickness increases pronouncedly as the immersion time is prolonged. When the content of Si in the steel is in a definite range, Si gives rise to dull grey coatings of excessive thickness, and ζ phase is uncontinuous. This phenomenon is referred as to Si reactivity.No change in the morphology and thickness of galvanized coatings has been observed...
