AIM: To testify the relationship between spatial ability and mental rotation under the condition of controlling verbal ability and to explore the linear function relationship between reaction time (RT) and the rotation angle. METHODS: Seventy nine healthy male college students were tested by Cognitive Laterality Battery and the mental rotation test. RESULTS: The average RT of the high spatial ability group was (889±169) ms and that of the low spatial ability group was (1043±173) ms. There were significant differences between the two groups in RT ( P =0.006). The average RT of the high verbal ability group was (957±190) ms and that of the low verbal ability group was (969±187) ms. There was no significant difference between the two groups. With the increasing of the rotation angle, RT prolonged. CONCLUSION: Mental rotation ability has obvious correlation with spatial ability. There is an obvious linear function relationship between the angles of mental rotation and RT.

Objective To testify the relationship between spatial ability and mental rotation under the conditions of controlling verbal ability and to explore the relation between spatial ability and slope and intercept.Methods95 healthy male college students were tested by cognitive laterality battery test and mental rotation test. ResultsOn basis of controlling verbal ability and with the increasing of rotation angle, reaction time prolonged whatever what kind of image the probe stimuli was and what kind of direction the probe stimuli rotated. And this phenomenon accorded with a significant relation of linear function. The slope and intercept of the function had no relationship with spatial ability. Compared with slope, the correlation efficient of intercept with spatial ability was lower. ConclusionOn basis of controlling verbal ability, there is a significant relationship between angles of mental rotation and reaction time. But spatial ability has no correlation with slope or intercept.

目的通过控制个体言语智力水平变量验证心理旋转角度与空间能力的关系 ,探讨空间能力与线性函数截距与斜率的关系。方法对 95名健康男性大学生进行认知分化成套测验以及以字母R为刺激的心理旋转测验。结果控制言语能力随着旋转角度的增加 ,无论是正像还是镜像刺激、旋转方向是顺时针还是逆时针 ,反应时延长。这种变化是一种线性函数关系。斜率和截距与空间能力的相关均未达到显著水平 ,从相关系数上比较而言 ,与截距的相关要小于与斜率的相关。结论在控制言语能力的基础上 ,旋转角度与反应时之间存在明显的线性函数关系 ,但函数斜率和截距与空间能力无明显相关。
