Damaged metallic aircraft structures were simulated by cracked aluminum alloy plates, and the fatigue crack was adhesively bonded with a carbon/epoxy composite patch. The feasibility and effectiveness of the repair scheme were verified by the comparative tests. Experimental results showed that both static strength and fatigue life of the bonded plates had been signficantly increased, and some reliable experimental data were also accumulated for the bonded composite patches of an aircraft structure.
