The moisture absorbed in deep pore, i. e. teakettle or inkbottle , and the strangly bounded chemical water introduced into pellet during the fabrication should be released above 400C. After out-gassing, the quantity of absorbed water of Gd2O3-UO2 pellet is lower than 10g/g (Gd2O3-UO2), which meets the specification value (no more than 15g/g (Gd2O3-UO2)). Therefore, it can be avoid the hydriding failure of the zircaloy cladding, which resulted from the pellets' moisture exceeding allowed limit.

It is considered as a fairly ideal method of determination of the O/M ratio of sintered UO2-Gd2O3 pellets. The standard deviation is not more than +0.003.
