The Pulse Step Modulation (PSM) technology is the combination of the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) and the Step Modulation (SM). And it is an important technology which is used in high-voltage, high-power switching power supply systems.
A new technique of modulation known as Pulse Step Modulator(PSM)and characterized by its high efficiency is presented. The principle and designof PSM are described,and experimental results are given.

Furthermore,a broadboard of the PSM for experiment and demonstrations is built.The results show that the approach for designing the pulse modulator is correct and effective.
