Various block truncation coding (BTC) algorithms proposed till now are in factthe two level quantizers. They quantize each image block into two levels,which result in obviousblocking effect especially in edges in the decoded images. In order to reduce the blocking distortion,we adopt a smooth filter for BTC and obtain modified block truncation coding(MBTC) algorithms. The experimental results show that MBTC can achieve the better image quality than otherBTC schemes,and decrease the blocking disortion.

已经提出的各种块截断算法本质上都是两电平量化器,由于它们将图象简单地量化(或截断)成两个电平值,所以在译码图象中出现块失真.为减少这种失真,本文在块截断算法中采用了平滑滤波器,从而改进了现有块截断算法的性能,明显提高了译码图象质量.

A method is presented here for color image compression which is based on efficient combination of Block Truncation coding (BTC) and Principal Component Analysis (PCA ). We first apply PCA to distinguish pixels of a color image into two groups so that vector quantization is finished simply . Then we use BTC to encode pixels of these two groups simply and effciently . Experiments show that this method is simple and practicable.

本文提出的彩色图象压缩方法基于BTC(块截断编码)和PCA(主成分分析)的有效结合。先利用PCA方法将图象象素分成二类,简单地实现了矢量量化;然后用BTC方法对分类象素进行简单而高效的编码。实施结果表明此方法简单、易行,效果良好。

In this paper,a novel moving picture coding algorithm,called the Multi level Quantized Block Truncation coding with Motion Compensation,is presented.The experiments show that this algorithm has better performance than the other algorithms of the same kind,can be realized in real time be using software in current PC,and the compression ratio is 75,at the same time,the peak signal to noise ratio is 35 dB.

报道了一种新的活动图象编码算法,称为具有运动补偿的多值量化块截断编码.模拟结果表明:这种新算法比现有的其它同类算法有更好的性能,压缩比为75,信噪比为35dB,在现有个人计算机上可以用软件实时实现.
