Since the crystalspossess anisotropic in nature of thermal expansion in cooling process during crystallizedtreatment, it would produce internal microcracks due to the action of thermal stress. Bymeans of stress calculating formula, the cause of the microcracks formation has been studi-ed. Such microcracks may be represented by a hysteresis loop between the heating and coo-ling curves, which can be measured by a dilatometer. The experimental results revealed that there exists a function correlation between theincrement in microcracks and experimental temperature, and it may be represented by anempirical formula, y = ae~(bx). Finally, by use of SEM, the locations and sizes of microcrackswere observed and analysed.

This paper suggests a method for testing and calculating the strain distributionin the grain of polycrystalline materials. A specially designed micro-complex-stresstesting machine was used for this work. The specimens are thin aluminum alloy(LY12) cylinders with and without crack. Principal strain distribution curves ofgrain in polycrystal were obtained under several loading conditions. This paper suggests the yielding criterion of polycrystals also. This paper suggests a method for testing and calculating the strain distributionin the grain of polycrystalline materials. The strain distribution just ahead of the crack tip showed that the determination of △Kth by dε/dN is more accurate than by da/dN.The interesting fact from this work is that: even under uniaxial loading the grain is in the two-dimensional strain condition. This fact, is important for further research on the initiation and propagation of crack and the strength of polycrystal.

The cordierite based glass-ceramics with much microcracks exhibit excellent resistan-ce to thermal shock.

应用膨胀长度变化、X射线衍射、电子显微镜及光学显微镜等实验技术研究了接近堇青石组分、内含11wt%TiO_2的玻璃的晶化过程,探讨了该微晶玻璃内微裂纹的生成机理。同一成分的玻璃,经不同的预热处理,会引起晶化过程中亚稳相的数量及堇青石析出的分布状态的不同,从而影响了该微晶玻璃内微裂纹的生成。含有大量微裂纹的堇青石微晶玻璃具有优良的热震性。
