Basic theory of transfer function and complex modal analysis is outlined, formula for calculating modal parameters derived, test scheme chosen with the aid of single-point steady-state sinusoidal excitation and simultaneous measurement at several points on the system,parameter idenfication made by approaching to frequency response function multi-mode curve-fitting combining with one-dimensional optimization, and modal model of the system constructed.

Dynamics of bi-consistent dynamic substructure procedure (BCDSP) is briefly dealt with and modal parameters in torsional vibration of crankshaft-flywheel system calculated with special reference to Diesel Q485. BCDSP is modified to be effectively operated on minicomputer or microcomputer. For comparison, modal parameters are also identified with finite element method and test modal analysis respectively and results thus obtained are in good agreement.

Twist modal test of crankshaft and flywheel system in diesel Type TC 387 was performed and its dynamic characteristics obtained. A mathematical model was established on the basis of finite element method. From calculated indicator diagram of this diesel, dynamic response was computed using above-mentioned finite element model.
