Vocabulary in English syllabus plays a guiding role in English teaching and learning. It decides what kind of teaching materials will be used. However, in the present vocabulary there still exist such defects as insuffi-ciency, impracticality and so on, which prevent students from all - round development in English.

中学英语教学大纲中词汇对英语教学起着导向作用,它决定着英语教材和内容的选择。但目前的词汇还存在着词汇量不足、实用性不够、词汇释义滞后等缺陷,成为制约学生英语综合能力提高的障碍。

According to the vequirements and principles of high school's teaching syllabusin elementavy English reading teaching. some veading strategies and methods are suggested heve. great emphasis should also be put on helping students to clevelop effective reading skills, and three stages of veading activities ( pre - reading ,While -reading and post -reading) are described in detail.

本文根据高中英语教学大纲(试验修订版)对阅读教学的要求和原则,针对当前中学英语阅读教学中存在的问题,提出了中学英语阅读教学的策略和方法,认为阅读教学要实现从重视知识传授转移到重视培养学生获取信息的技能,并对阅读前、阅读中和阅读后的活动作了阐述。
