This paper deals with the relationship between the growth rate of Picea wilsonii and neighbourhood interference.The significant correlation between Picea individual growth rate and the indices of local interference demonstrates that interference occurs and that the pioneer tree species, Populus davidiana, Betula plat-yphylla,and Picea wi/sonii itself are competitively related with the growth of Picea wilsonii individuals. We are able to account for more than 30% of the variation in plant growth rate of Picea wilsonii as a polynomial function of the size, distance and number of their neighbours within 2 meters.In this study, we have improved the index of neighbourhood interference as follows :where S is the size of subject individual; Si is the size of i-th neighbour; di is the distance to the i-th neighbour; N is the number of neighbours. The improved index can account for 45% of the variation in the growth rate of Picea wilsonii .Since interference occurs and the climax species may establish itself synchronously with the pioneer tree species, it can be reasonably concluded that the main driving force of recovery succession of Picea wilscnii is an interspecies competition among the dominant tree species.

The synchronously-established succession is the process that pioneer, serai, and climax species grow altogether at the same time, reaching the mixed forest of masson pine and broad-leaved species firstly, then through a series of successional stages, finally developing into the climax community where the primary vegetation was destroyed. With examples in this paper, it illustrated that there was typical synchronously-established succession on Mount Jinyun. The process of succession is stochastic because the invasion of the initial species is stochastic, but the final stage of succession is the same. Markovian model is used to analyse two kinds of synchronously-established succession, the conclusion is that the final stages are evergreen broad-leaved forests with similiar species composition, i. e. the succession is convergent.

Multigeneration stands are patchy mosaics in different onegeneration stands, in which, old and young generation populations have a less age variance, and middle -aged or mature generation populations have a greater age variance. In mixed Betula platyphylla and Larix gmelini stands, the mean age of Betula platyphylla is 5-15 years older than that of Larix gmelini because of its earlier colonization at early stage, but after 50 to 70 years, that of the latter is greater due to the death of older individuals of the former.
