    The peroxidase,cytochrome oxidase,esterase,α-amylase,catalase,malate dehydrogenase,alcohol dehydrogenase and lactate dehydrogenaseisozymes were analysed with different types of male sterile line and theirmaintainer in maize by using vertical slab polyacrylamide gel electro-phoresis and densitometer scanning during 1978-1980.Samples for anal-ysis were taken from three developmental stages:leaves of seedling,endosperm of milky stage after pollination and anthers of uninucleate ortwo nuclei pollen stage.The results were as follows:(1)The activities of peroxidase and cytochrome oxidase in band1,2 and 5,6 of T type and C type in anthers were much higher thanthat of respective maintainers,while band 3 and band 4 were absent insterile lines.It might be correlated with the pollen abortion.In addition,zymograms of sterile lines and respective maintainers of M type wassimilar,but the sterile lines possessed the weak band 3 and 4 that weredifferent from both T and C types.(2)Amylase in anthers of T and C types of sterile lines was dif-ferent from that of respective maintainers.The activities of amylase 1-Aand amylase 1-B in sterile lines were lower,and the activity of amylase1-C was higher than that of maintainers.The maintainers of C type hadtwo another band,amylase 1-D and amylase 1-E,which showed higheractivities than that of their sterile lines.Zymograms between sterile oflines and their maintainers showed similarity,only amylase 1-C of sterilelines indicated higher activity than maintainers.(3)No regular difference was observed in esterase between sterilelines and their maintainers.Only four bands migrated nearly to the ca-thode showed higher activities in T type than that of both C and Mtypes.(4)No significant differences were observed in either isozymes.(5)It is proposed that the analysis of isozymes may be used instudying the classification of the malesterile lines of different cytoplasmictypes in maize.
