Recent investigation in static electrification properties of transformer oil is presented in this paper. A preliminary study on the effect of benzotriazole (BTA) used as a charge suppressant additive on the properties of the oil is carried out. Furthemore, the mechanism of static electrification and subsequent partial discharges in transformer is discussed. Based on the above mentioned work and analysis, the authors propose a test method for evaluating the static charging tendency of transformer.
