In L5-L6 cage insertion group,screws strain at L5 and L6 were significantly lower than at L3 and L4.[Conclusion]Multi-segmental pedicle fixation construct may lead to high strain at the cranial and caudal screws.
Methods Twenty-two patients (14 males and 8 females, aged 49-68 years) were admitted to hospital from March 1999 to March 2004. They suffered from multi-segmental lumbar intervertebral disc protrusion that involved L_1-S_1 and were treated with the limited recessive decompression operation.
Single segment disc herniation was 23 cases:L1,2 6 cases,L2,3 12 cases,L3,4 5 cases. Multi-segment disc herniation was 4 cases:L1,2+L4,5 1 case,L2,3+L3,4 2 case,L3,4+L4,5 1 case. All cases were treated through posterior-lateral approach to excise intervertebral disc and osteophytes.
PARTICIPANTS: Totally 32 patients (22 male and 10 female) with multi-segment cervical spinal stenotic myelopathy were treated at the Department of Orthopaedics of the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from May 1995 to May 2004. Twelve cases suffered from degenerative spinal canal stenosis caused by spinal cord type of cervical spondylosis, 18 cases suffered from developmental spinal canal stenosis and 2 from ossification of cervical posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL).
32 of 34 patients with DCMshowed left ventricle serious enlargement(94% ), 23of 32 patients with left ventricle enlargement (72%)showed different degrees of right ventricle enlargement. 85% (29/34) of the patients with DCMshowed myocardial multiple segments patch patternchange.
