Through a series of tests and field opration, the use of nondular cast iron with meduim silicon content for bars in combustion section of a reciprocating grate has proved to be of great advantage. Preliminary analysis is made on the brittleness of the iron and methods for reducing brittle fractures of the bars are developed. Presented in this peper are some problems existing in the the“Testing methods for combustible matters(CM)in fly ash and bottom ash”issued in 1983 and the ways to solve them. It also introduces three methods(LOI,IDM and DDM)for determing CM and their accuracy with some pratical examples. It is proposed by the peper that more accurate methods(IDM or DDM)should be used in stead of LOI in quality inspection and acceptance test of imported generating units.
