We have made an experimental study of Bioglass Hydroxylapatic Ceramics by implanting them in 49 rabbits. Several aspects of BGHC have been tested, which include, acute systematic toxicity, haemolysis tests, skin response tests, tissue implantation tests and tests of comparisons of the restoration of mandible defect with the implantation of BGHC and those with the animals' own bones.The results of the above tests revealed that BGHC had no toxicity, no haemolytic activities, no irritation to muscle or skin meanwhile...

Our tests have provided reliable evidences for clinical applications.

Bone morphogenetic protein(BMP)was extracted from bovine bones.BMP/HA com-posite was prepared by combining BMP with porous HA cylinders with diameter of 4mmand length of 12~15mm.The BMP/HA composite contains 5mg bBMP,with a porous sizeof HA cylinder ranging from 100μm to 300μm.The BMP/HA composite and HA alone(experimental control)were implanted intothe bone defects of femur in 16 dogs.Comparative study was performed by using histolog- ical methods,scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and scintigraphy as ~(45)Ca-labelled tra-cer.Observation at 2,4,8,16,24 weeks postoperatively showed that not only werethe speed and time of new bone ingrowing into the BMP/HA composite much quickerand earlier than that of implants of HA alone(experimental control gruop),but also thequantity of new bone ingrowin into the BMP/HA composite was much higher than thatof HA alone implants.It is clear that the BMP/HA composite presented a very activeability of osteoinduction,and repaired the bone defect in a relatively short time,while theimplant of HA alone only plays a growth-guiding properties(osteoconduction)causing newbone to grow into the bonedefects in a relatively long time.SEM showed that there was aintimate bone-implant contact in all implants.The results of quantitive analysis of incor-poration of ~(45)Ca into new bone indicated the bone ingrowth of BMP/HA composite at high-er rate within 3 weeks.The results of this study suggested that BMP/HA composite poss-ess a superior ability of osteogenesis.

将牛骨形成蛋白(bBMP)与多孔羟基磷灰石(HA)结合制成 bBMP-HA 复合人工骨,植入狗股骨缺损区,植入后2,4,8,16,24周,采用组织学、扫描电子显微镜及~(43) Ca 同位素示踪综合考查其骨修复过程,并以单纯 HA 作为对照。结果发现,各实验程期 bBMP-HA 材料内新骨形成量均明显多于单纯 HA 对照组,bBMP-HA 植入后早期诱导骨形成较活跃,实验证明 bBMP-HA 复合人工骨具有良好的诱导成骨能力,并能促进骨缺损的修复。
