The Japanese took an active attitude to borrowed Chinese words and adopted the flexible means of "exegetic reading" and "phonological reading" by observing the principle of taking its native tongue as the basis, which served as the perceptual and technological basis for the introduction of the approach of exegetic reading. From introduction to establishment, the approach of exegetic reading underwent a long and complicated process of evolution and completion, whose reasonability and necessity was well testified by the attempt and failure of the opposer of the approach of exegetic reading represented by Di Sheng and Zu Lai in the age of Jianghu. In Travels in China, Akutagawa not only describes the beautiful images of ancient China in Chinese poem and prose but also satirizes and exaggerates dirtiness and backwardness in modern China. Therefore, China becomes 'the other' in Akutagawa's discourse of orientalism. This reflects the cultural psychology of Akutagawa and his contemporary which is based on the sense of superiority of Japanese nationality.
