The Period from the last reign of the Tang Dynasty to the Five Dynasties may be described an interim period of gradually advancing valleys between the two literary peaks of the Tang and the Song Dynasties.This period also presents superfine scenes as is peculiar to troubled times.The critical remarks on poetry,which advocate “enlightening via education”,were daily losing their ground in the sentimental attachment to the poetic tradition of the Tang Dynasty;the artistic ideal of upholding “clear words and beautiful sentences” could get nowhere because the writers' ability and skill fell short of their wishes,while Jia Dao,a poet of the mid Tang Dynasty who took great pains to choose words when composing his poems,became a universal image being worshipped by most of poets of the troubled times.The literary thoughts in th Five Dynasties mainly represented in poetry,may be seen as bridges and ties of the transition from the Tang Dynasty to the Song Dynasty.Although Ci in the Five Dynasties attracts wide attention,it has in fact “a style of its own”,not belonging to the category of “essay”.

The production of Wu Dai Poetry was numerous and complicated. One the basis of the trandition of T'ang poetry, in had an artistic appearance of such three features as Popular, Amorous and Quiescent, which directly influenced the poetry mood in the first years of Song.Wu Dai poetry gave and exposition of the social cultural psyohology and the poet's mind in that special period.The success and failure in creation were much worth summing up.

On the basis of the traditional Chinese verse headed by the verse of the Tang Dynasty, Yu Guang-zhong has managed to create brilliant modern poetry through his dozen-of-year arduous perseverance and determination as well as his marvelous intelligence and painstaking efforts. Yu Guang-zhong is the inheritor of Li Bai and Du Fu, and he has created a new realm for Chinese verse.
