The self concept of vocational and ordinary high school students was examined. Multivariate ANOVA was used to compare the self concept of these two student groups. The correlations between academic performance and academic self concept in the two student groups were also computed and compared. The correlations between academic performance and academic self concept in the two student groups were also computed and compared. The results showed that (i) vocational high schools students had significantly lower self concept than those in ordinary high schools, (ii) the differential patterns of correlations between academic performance and academic self concept in the two student groups were incongruent with the internal/external (I/E) frame of reference model.
