    The determination of hydrocarbon types in heavy straight run distillates of petroleum by high ionizing voltage, low resolution mass spectrometry is described. The sample is at first separated into saturate and aromatic fractions by silica gel percolation, and the two fractions are then treated by mass spectrometric analysis separately. The results show that the saturate fraction contains saturated hydrocarbon types, including alkanes(0-ring), single-ring naphthenes and five fused naphthene types with 2-6 rings....

A small quantity of mononuclear aromatics is also found in the saturate fraction. Aromatic fraction contains 18 aromatic hydrocarbon types and 3 aromatic thiophenotypes. The composition data of lubricating oils, catalytic cracking feed stocks, and some paraffin waxes from Daqing, shengli, Renqiu, Dongpu, Changqing and Yangsanmu crude oils are also presented. These data are useful in heavy oil processing studies.

    A new process for producing roofing asphalt from petroleum residua by steam cracking and condensation has been studied in the laboratory. Three different stocks, i. e.
