Jiaomen estuary has the greatest average number of phytoplankton per year, 1.72×106 individual/L, and Humen estuary has the greatest average number of zooplankton per year, 179 individual/L.
In the Dajingshan Reservoir, 62 species of phytoplankton was found in the collected samples, 14 species in Cyanophyta, 30 species in Chlorophyta, 11 specie in Bacillariophyta, 2 species in Pyrrophyta 、 2 species in Chrysophyta and 2 species in Euglenophyta, and 1 species in Cryptophyta.

To understand the basic features of reservoir ecosystems and provide suitable strategies for water quality management, two typical reservoirs, Dajingshan reservoir and Meixi reservoir, were selected for ecological study.
The eutrophication of the Jintan Reservoir was evaluated,based on the analysis to the biomass,dominant species, primary productivity and the concentration of the chlorophyll a in water. It is judged that the Jintan Reservoir was a blue algae-eutrophic reservoir.
The algal communities and water quality in the different perts of the Lean River polluted by heavy metals due to mining activities were studied in May of 1993 and October of 1994,respectively.
