The results indicated that zoo-plarkton biomass, phytoplankton biomass, chlorophyll-a concentration and gross primary production were reduced by 58.7%, 63.6%, 52.5%, and 65.0% respectively, water transparency and Shannon-Weiner's diversity index of phytoplankton community were increased by 18.2% and 32.5%, when silver carp were stocked in the enclosures.
Phytoplankton is the main food to the bivalve filter-feeders and the marine primary producer, so the impacts on the phytoplankton community by scallop culture deserve studying.
According to the survey results in 2000 and 2001,the nutritive peculiarity of water body in Miyun Reservoir belonged to responding type of phytoplankton. The structure of phytoplankton community was of Chlorophyta(51.6%)-Bacillariophyta(29^2%) type.
The probabilities of reducing PHYT( phytoplankon biomass) more than 2% by 1.55X JO7 tons/yr and 3.1 X 107 tons/yr of drawing water are about 44% and 61% respectively, and the probabilities of reducing PHYT more than 12% by the abatement of 1/3 and 1/2 of nutrients release in sediments are about 9% and 83% respectively.
Iron, which could help phytoplankton grow rapidly, is a micronutrient essential to the synthesis of enzymes required for photosynthesis in the oceanic environment.
The structural complexity of the phytoplankton community was evaluated using the index of cenotic significance (ICS) and derivative calculation coefficients.
The species and size structure of the phytoplankton community was found to have changed significantly and the community biomass, to have increased in the course of long-term succession.
The feeding habit, age and growth, and the propagation of the mud carp,Cir-rhinus molitorella, has been studied. And suggestions concerning its culture have beenmade accordingly. The mud carp feeds mainly on phytoplankton. When water temperature is bet-ween 16.4℃ and 29.4℃,the fish have a strong appetite, above and below this tem-perature feeding declines. Most fish cease to eat at a dissoved oxygen level of 0.24—0.65 mg/l,and when the oxygen level exceeds 0.99 mg/l the feeding of the mudcarp becomes quite active.T...
This is the second report of the studies on organism (fishes) for the control of mosquitoes.Three years ago one of the writers(Pan,1978) made a comparative study of Gambusia affinis, Clarias fuscus and Macropodus opercularis occurring in Guangdong Province, notingpar-ticularly their biological characteristics and developmental embryology. The findings there of appeared in Journal of South China Teachers' College, Natural Sciences Adition, NO.1(1980) , PP 117-138.
The study on primary productivity of phytoplankton and biomass of plankton ofLongtou reservior was carried out during 1978-1979. The mean primary productivityof phytoplankton is 1.88gC/m~2 per day. The biomass of phytoplanton and zooplanktonare 5.764mg/L. and 0. 587mg/L respectively. Basing upon the samples of the Longtoureservoir, fish productivity of silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) and big-headcarp (Aristichthys nobils) and rational stocking of an aquatic ecosystem are discussed.
