Through the cold model experiments, the factors influencing the segregation process in a fluidized bed with a parallel - tube distributor were discussed. On the basis of cold model experiments, the authors added an ash burn-out bed with a porallel - tube distributor to a 35T/H Fluidized Bed Boiler, with the ash burn-out, the total thermal efficiency of the boiler is around 80% ( 7-8% higher than before ) , and the withdrawal ash temperature is 200℃ lower than before.

In this paper some problems existing in designing and operating large fluidizeal-beds are discussed. Several approaches to the problems are suggested to be adopted to improve the design, e.g.,use of fuel spreading air,use of secondary air to intensify the combustion in the freeboard, rational design of the location of spillway, and so on. The combustion fraction in the fluidization zone is also discussed.

Considerations of the design and operation of large size FBD boiler are discussed in the paper. The use of coal distributing air, secondary air supported combustion in free board and some other methods are proposed as the improvement measures together with their design and operating data. The effect of in-bed tube structure on bed fluidization as well as that of the fluid-bed combustion on heating surface arrangement is also discussed in the paper.
