A new PVC membrane electrode based on bis-benzoin-semiethylcnediamine ( BB-SEA)complex of Hg( Ⅱ )was prepared. This elecfrode shows a good selectivity for the iodide ion. The excellent selectivity for iodide is related to the unique interaction between the central Hg( Ⅱ ) and iodide ion. In this paper,direct potential determination of iodine in rice by PVC membrane iodide selective electrode was reported.The sensitivity of the methode was 3×10 -7 mol/L,and the lineary 5×10 -7 ~10 -3 mol/L,in 0.01mol/L borax buffer solution in this method.Iodine in rice along Zheng river region was determined in this method. The level of iodine in rice in the region was in 0.2 to 0.6 mg/kg.
