Cyclohexyl nitrate is an effective cetane number improver for diesel oil. The orthogonal design was used in the optimum synthesis of cyclohexyl nitrate with the mixture of nitric acid and acetic anhydride as the nitrating agent of cyclohexanol. The effects of experimental factors on both product yield and purity were analyzed and investigated from the point of view of nitration.
