EV was classified systematically as Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) according to the sources of driving force in a vehicle. Present achievements and further research trends of EV and many kinds of power sources...

Electric Vehicle (EV), as an integrated product of modern technology and trend of the auto industry in the future, was environmental friendly and had wide market prospect. EV was classified systematically as Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) according to the sources of driving force in a vehicle. Present achievements and further research trends of EV and many kinds of power sources adapted to EV were reviewed. The proposal about how to develop EV industry in China was presented. Two possible breakthroughs of the EV markets in China, the markets of electric buses and electric bicycles, was suggested. On the basis of the technical and economical analysis it could be concluded that the lead acid battery could meet the elemental needs for developing EV in our country today.
