By using a similarity transformation, the Navier-Stobes equations in the cylindrical co-ordinates for the steady incompressible flow are reduced to an ordinary non-linear differential equation of the third order. With appropriate boundary conditions, this equation is solved by the method of small perturbation. The results show that the velocity of injection or suction and the two radii of the annulus affect considerably the velocity profile, the pressure drop in the flow direction and the friction coefficients at the walls. When the suction is applied only at the inner tube the position of the maximum velocity moves inward. The friction at the inner wall consequently increases and that at the outer wall decreases. It is also found that in the case considered the suction reduces the pressure drop in the flow direction.

The author also presents some new interpretations about the mutual relations between the inrush conduit itself, the pressure drop developed therein and the actual quantity of inrush water. Finally, the practical significances of inrush conduit in safe-product-ion are discussed.

    The flow characteristics of the liquid and solid phase in a multi-stage flui-dized bed with down comers was studied systematically in the following aspects: (1) the longitudinal back-mixing of the liquid phase, (2) the pressure drop of the liquid flowing through the perforated distribution plate, (3) the gravity flow of the solid particles through the bottom aperture of the downcomer pipe, and (4) the working characteristics of the downcomer pipe.
