A photocatalytic system containing Ti (Ⅲ)/TKOA/K2PtCl8 for the generation of hydrogen from neutral aqueous solutions by UV irradiation is described. A photocatalytic system containing Ti (Ⅲ)/TKOA/K2PtCl8 for the generation of hydrogen from neutral aqueous solutions by UV irradiation is described. In this system, the TiCl3 and 2, 2'-bpy are photocatalysts in synergism with TEOA (triethanolamine), an electron donor, and K2PtCl8, a reductive catalyst. Results of the synergetic effect of component concentration, irradia-tive time and pH of the system on hydrogen generation rate and the turnover numbers of the catalytic components are reported. The steady maximun rate of H2·production is 1.01 ml/hr for a system containing 0.1 mmole of TiCl3, 0.15 mmole of 2, 2'-bpy, 4 mmole of TEOA and 0.025 mmole of K2PtCl6 at pH 7.5 within 30 hours of irradiation time and no decaying in this rate is observed. A possible photocatalytic mechanism is suggested, i. e. Ti3+ is photoexcited to *Ti3+ which in turn oxidizes TEOA to produce TEOA+ and Ti2+, then the Ti2+ reacts with Ⅱ+ to produce H2 in the presence of Pt catalyst, and Ti3+ is regenerated.

Acidic phosphorus compounds are a type of extractant with powerful extractability for lanthanides, in which alkyl phosphonicacid monoalkyl ester possesses the most excellent separation behaviour. Acidic phosphorus compounds are a type of extractant with powerful extractability for lanthanides, in which alkyl phosphonicacid monoalkyl ester possesses the most excellent separation behaviour. In order to develop a new high efficient extractant, it is meaningful to examine the effect of the alkyl structure in the molecule of alkyl phosphonic acid monoalkyl ester on the separation ability of lanthanides.Nine octyl phosphonic acid monooctyl esters with various alkyl groups have been synthesized for the structure-reactivity study on lanthanide extraction in this paper. The required extractant with>99% of purity were synthesized using the follwing procedure: the reaction of ethanolamine with dioctyloctylphosphonate which was prepared by P-alkylating of dioctyl phosphite and followed by purification of the crude products by crystallization of its copper salt.The distribution ratios of lanthanum, europium and lutecium between dodecane solution of studied extractant and aqueous solution with constant ionic strength (1.0M) and various acidity in nitrate media were determined. By extrapolation the regressive values of distribution ratios were obtained for the purpose of structure-reactivity study at the identical condition.By examining the obtained values as shown in Table 2, the following order in extraction ability of La. Eu and Lu was observed: Ⅰa>Ⅰb>Ⅲa>Ⅱa>Ⅰc>Ⅱb>Ⅲb>Ⅱc>Ⅲc.The extractants Ⅰa with the alkyls as n-octyl and Ⅲc with the alkyls as sec-octyl possess the strongest and weakest extractability among these acidic phosphonates. The first five extractants in the series all have one straight chain alkyl, n-octyl at least in their molecule. It is evidently shown that the lanthanide extraction by octyl phosphonic acid monooctyl esters decreases with the strengthening of isomerization of the alkyl group as the steric hinderance towards phosphorus atom is enhanced.The steric effect also has the obvious influence on the separation behaviour of octyl phosphonicacid monooctyl esters in lanthanide extraction. For light lanthanides (La-Eu), the acidic phosphonates with less steric effect of straight chain group n-octyl demonstrate smaller separation behaviour. With proper degree of isomerization in alkyl group, both 2-ethylhexyl phosphonicacid mono-2-ethylhexyl ester (Ⅱb) and n-octyl phosphonicacid mono-1-methylheptyl ester (Ⅰc) posses excellent average separation factor 3.04 and 2.89 respectively for whole lanthanide series.In addition, synergetic effect does not appear with the mixture of these acidic phosphonates in lanthanide extraction.

Reed, Phragmites communis Trin. , is one of the important herbaceous plants used as the raw material for paper pulp in China. They distribute widely all ovar the country and is, therefore, a rich natural resource for paper industry. Since the length of its fibre is short and the length/width ratio is low, they are considered as a relative inferior raw material for making paper pulp.Attempt has been made in this experiment to lengthen the fibre cells by treating them with plant hormone, gibberellic acid, and the trace element, boron.The experiments were carried out in cement blocks as well as in small plots in Panshan County of Liaoning Province in North China.The plants were sprayed weekly during the growing season ( from late May to the early part of July ) with various concentrations of GA3 or H3BO3, used either separately or in combination. The plants were harvested in November. The length and the width of the fibre cells were measured and the chemical composition was analysed.Results show that the treatment with GA3 alone or in combination with H3B03 could not only enhance the fibre quality but also improve the overall growth pattern. The most effective dosage of GA3 was found at a concentration of 10ppm plus 12ppm H3B03. The results can be summarized as follows: fibre length increased 51.5%; length/width ratio, 48%, cellulose content, 9.6%; stem height, 9.8%; numbers of nodes, 11.3%; and the fresh weight, 15%,In addition to the above improvement, it appears to have advantage in paper pulp processing, owing to the fact that it has a low silica content of ash, approximately 10% less than that of the controls. The mechanism of this synergetic effect of GA3 and H3BO3 was suggested due probably to the cell elongation and cell wall biosynthesis enhancement. Large scale field trials will be conducted prior to practical application in paper industry.

芦苇是我国的主要造纸原料之一,但其纤维短,长宽比小,品质较次;如何能提高其纤维品质是造纸工业上的一个重要课题.本实验结果初步证明以浓度为10ppm的赤霉酸和12ppm的硼酸混合液喷洒的效果为最佳.经处理的芦苇纤维长度比对照增加51%,宽度增加8%,长宽比增加48%,壁厚增加8%,腔径增加46%.而且经处理的芦苇在形态上比对照也有所改进,株高增加9%,茎杆直径增加23%,茎壁厚度增加33%,鲜重增加15%.因此,认为对辽宁地区的芦苇喷施一定浓度的赤霉酸和硼酸可以收到改良品质的效果.
