There are heavy environmental pollution in chinese cities.The exhaust gas of cars is one of the main polluting sources,and the noise pollution also has a bad effect on the people′s life and health.Statistics show that,because of the city traffic jam,economic loss could reach hundred billions of RMB Yuan each year in China,that affects severely the development of city and society.From the aim of sustainable development,the paper analyzes the urban communication of system,and the characteristics,the tangible achievement and the function of all sorts of communication modes.In choosing the mode of urban communication,the following principles must be considered:①To save city land and to use the least land to move passenger traffic;②To use the least energy to move the unit traffic volume;③To improve the city environment quality of fulfill unit traffic with the least influence on the environment with the least exhaust gas;④The modes of safety,puncturality and large traffic volume are used. On these principles,and according to the correlative statistic data about occupation of land and energy resources,this paper discusses the strategic countermeasures. China should adopted in the aspect of the development of urban communication,namely,mass transity system.It should mainly undertake long distance transportation. Bicycle as assistant traffic tool for short distance should be used.Saloon car should be controlled strictly in development.
