Activity coefficients of MgCl_2-NaCl-H_2O system have been measured using isopeistic method at 25℃., For a series of ternary solutions at cons- tant water activity (between the range of 0. 7527--0. 9026) a linear variation of 1/m with x_1 (or x_2)was found where x_1 is the fraction of the salt NaCl, m_1=mx_1 and m defined as m=2m_1+3m_2 is the total concentration of ions in the solution. The α_(ij) and β_(ij) terms in Harned Rule are also evaluated at constant total ionic strength 4.5, 5.0, 5.5, and 6.0. The results indicate thai /3~ is very small, and the logarithm of MgCI2 is approximately linear with the ionic strength of NaC1 but as for NaCI a quadratic equation is required. The simple addltivity rule for vapor pressure lowering has been discussed and no sound evidence has been found in favor of the existance of special interactions between the ions in solution. When the eqilibrium concentrations of mx are plotted aga- inst m~, a series of straight isothermic-isobaric lines are obtained, this be- havior indicates that the system obeys zhdanovsky Rule.

Results show that ettringite, the essential prod-uct of hydration, is formed gradually in cement paste Its amount, shapes, rate of forma-tion and place of formation in the cement paste depend on the lime content of the cement which explains why supersulfated cements with different lime contents show different cha-racteristics in the development of strength and expansion.In view of the fact that the rate of formation of ettringite at later ages becomes slow, the problem of volume consistency of the supersulfated cements with excessive lime con-tent and subject to long time curing in water has been discussed The authors conclude that in actual practice, a reasonable excessive addition of portland cement clinker to the mix is permissible in view to improve certain properties of the cement. Hardened supersulfated cement may be used in contact with portland cement even in moist circumstances, but the two types cement must not be used together in the mix.
