    The effects of temperature and salinity on the growth and development of the ephyrae of the jellyfish (R. esculenta K.) under controlled room coditions have been investigated. The results obtained show that the suitable temperatures for the development of ephyrae range from 10℃ to 25℃ and the optimum temperature is 15-20°. The results obtained show that the suitable temperatures for the development of ephyrae range from 10℃ to 25℃ and the optimum temperature is 15-20°. Under this range of temperature ephyrae grow rapidly. The average diameter of umbrella enlarges at a rate of 0.5 mm per day. The extrenes of temperature tolerance are the highest 30℃, the lowest 5℃. The lethal critical temperature is about 35℃. The suitable salinity range for the growth of ephyrae is 9.89-33.63‰, the optimum 13.84-26.26‰. The highest and lowest critical concentrations are about 7.05‰ and 36.58‰ respectively. The ephyrae have a narrow range of adaptability to pH values. The survival range a is 6.0-9.0, with the optimum about 8.0.

The results showed that some metabolic reorganizations occurred in the liver tissue of the grass carp during cold acclimation ,and that increasing enzyme concentration was the major or only response in the tissues of the mud carp. The authors consider that the mechanism of metabolic reorganizations is not perfect in the tissues of mud carps,which is the major reason why they can not tolerate temperature lower than 6 - 7℃. The changes in the isozyme patterns of esterase (EST)in liver tissue of the three tested mud carp sets indicated that some changes must have occurred in the lipid metabolism of their liver tissues during thermal acclimation. The effect of the Mixed - milt Fertilization Method on improving the capacity for low temperature tolerance in mud carp was discussed at the end of the paper.
