    This article discusses how to improve the compression bone plate, screws, and pressure-measuring instrument, and at the same time the experience of its application in 117 cases with 120 fractures from April 1979 to March 1983. The improved plate used in the internal fixation meets many requirements, such as light physiological compression, less trauma, easiness to operate and innocuous quality of the material used.     This article discusses how to improve the compression bone plate, screws, and pressure-measuring instrument, and at the same time the experience of its application in 117 cases with 120 fractures from April 1979 to March 1983. The improved plate used in the internal fixation meets many requirements, such as light physiological compression, less trauma, easiness to operate and innocuous quality of the material used. As a result, complications seldom occur after the use of the improved plate. It could nearly be applied to all fractures of the shaft of long bones except multiple fractures, severely commu-nited fractures and fractures near the joint. No infection occurs in 89 cases, and bone healing occurs within four months. 31 open fractures with only 3 exceptions recover without complications.

The straight compression plate has a inherent defect of eccentric compression, the pre-bend plate can overcome this defect because of its elastic deformity. We found that the optimum prebend angle is about 4 degrees associated with 40 to 60 kg. force of compression. With this method, the fractured bone ends can be contacted tightly and compressed evenly, so that the internl af ixation would be more stable and the fracture healing enhanced. A "direct bone healing" was gained in our animal experiments. The result of clinical trial was satisfactory as predicted. This study makes the compression plate method more reasonable biomechanically. It has been verified in clincal trial, and might be recommented.
