    Superoxide dismutase (SOD) plays an important protective role in the ischemia/reperfusion injury of myocardium 'through its oxygen free radicals scavenging activity.This study investigates the SOD levels in erythrocyte and plasma in patients sufferring from coronary heart disease and the changes in SOD after infusion of Injectio salvia miltiorrhizae composita plus low molecular dextran.The result shows that SOD levels in erythrocyte and plasma of patients with coronary heart disease are lower than that of patients without sufficient evidences of myocardial ischemia,and the extent of the decrease,especially that in plasma,is correlated with the seriousness of the disease.The increased SOD levels in erythrocyte and plasma after the infusion of Injectio salvia miltiorrhizae composita plus low molecular dextran suggest that the therapy may reduce the ischemia/reperfusion injury as well as improve the oxygen supply of ischemic myocardium.

    The oxygen free radical scavenging activity and antilipid peroxidation of saponins of Glycyrrhiza yunnanensis (SGY) were studied in vitro.
