This paper states a half-analytics and half-finite elment method applied to analysis of the strength of pressurized vessels with three centers. To most parts of a vessel the analytics method can be applied, however, for specific parts which are difficult to solve theoretically, such as holes, enclosed containers or the surrounding areas of stress concentration of pipe joints, the finite element method should be used. The authors adopt different calculating methods and make a comprehensive analysis of the strength influencing pitting on the surface of the cause of gear in the hoist of BINHAI system. It is indicated that the main reason for the pitting is inadequate strength acting on the gear surface. Finally, ways of improving pitting are suggested with special references to the BINHAI reducer gear.
