A reversed phase high performance liquid chromatography method for the determination of ceftibuten capsules was developed. The liquid chromatograph was equipped with a 263nm detector and a 4.6mm ×20cm column containing 5μm Hypersil BDS C 18 , and was maintained at ambient temperature. The flow rate was 1.0ml/min and the mobile phase was 0.05mol/L phosphate buffer solution (pH=7.0)-acetonitrile (98∶2). The linear response ranged from 50~500mg/L ( r =0.9999). The chromatographic system suitablity tests showed that the method was simple and specific. The analytical recovery was 99.6% with RSD 0.8% ( n =8), ceftibuten had high resolution among any other degradation substances. Three bat ches of ceftibuten capsules were analyzed and the results were concordant with that of manufacturer′s method.
